the tuesday after

i would suspect that the tuesday after labor day feels much the same way as the day after your child graduates from high school. nothing seems different. they are still here... eating your food, tying up the bathroom, chatting over nachos about who is going where and who wore what to the wherever.... but then there is that moment you look at them and you know... this is it. this is almost gone.
the page turned and although it feels the same... nothing is the same.
summer is over.
i felt it in the air today. i hopped out of the van and was gassing it up and there it was... a cool breeze that didn't die back into a warm sun. it was just... a little cold.
i wished i had brought a sweater. and that's all it took. i knew the page had turned and it was fall.

it seems the older i get the more i drag my feet. the more i hush the wind. the more i ask for just a little more time... but the wind doesn't listen. she swirls by bringing her promises of good things ahead.
so i will rally.

i will savor the sun's final goodbyes and thank her for the sweet summer she poured out on my thirsty soul..
but i will welcome autumn with plaid. and boots. and fire pits with smores. i will remember she brings cozy nights with blankets and books. walks with leaves crunching under my feet. afternoon light that slants through the trees and turns the world into golden magic.

every turning of the page is hard.
who knows what lies on the other side?
but babies grow up and summer turns into fall.
it happens every year.

i think maybe it is more about finding the peace in the page turning. whatever comes next i know one thing-- it will not last. i better learn how to savor the sweet and learn from the bitter....
as the very ancient, wise sage, ferris bueller, says:

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

all that to say i still have lots of summer pics that i will try to get posted within the next couple weeks in an effort to not dwell in the past.. :)
we will just count this as helping me savor the memories...

so take yourself back a few weeks ago---
to evenings at the pool, babies in hammocks and flowers you water and wear on your head.
delicious summer....
delicious summer.... you never disappoint. :)
