you aren't attached to the concept of linear time right? here, there, now, then... it's all the same. as in i was in florida, then i was home, now i'm at camp, then the blog will go back to florida for a last hurrah... blah blah blah time is meaningless.. okay. :)
june tends to be a big blur for our family. in the beginning it's a VBS freight train...
quickly transforming into sending daddy off in a junior high camp whirlwind which surprisingly smells like cheap 'axe' cologne mixed with sweaty socks and teenage angst. he arrives home tired and resisting the urge to include references to bodily function in every story.
daddy's birthday and father's day is always sandwiched between piles of smelly camp laundry, naps, van cleanings, and getting geared up for week two where we pack up the babies, grab the bug spray and head back to camp for a week of senior high craziness.
june is defined by these things in our family.
i am many things. in june i am a youth pastor's wife first and foremost.
we rally for june.
we skip our naps and we eat camp food.
we sacrifice internet access and gain trips to the sweet shop.
we see God do deep and true things.
june is an exhausting good time. :)
this year in between our weeks of immersion into camp youth culture something happened.
something cute. and big. and special.
something that made me squeal and screech in a voice two octaves too high.
may i present to you...
sister was nice enough to bust out her first steps at the park in perfect light while i had my camera on the ready. one of my besties rutheah has video on her camera and was able to take that footage for me while i clapped and chirped and tried to fend three year old boys from stealing luci's moment.
tenacity.
we trumpet that word to our kids like a battle cry.
life is a long sidewalk baby... and your tushie is nicely padded for a reason.
you will fall. you will fail. you get back up.. do a funky dance to get your mojo back and you keep walking.
that's tenacity... and this girl has it. :)

Oh my goodness! Applause. Applause. Encore. Encore. How brilliant. And what perfect timing ... all cameras poised! Love it. The BEST part was how she just kept getting back up and doing it all over again. No questions asked. Just getting it done.
ReplyDeleteDeep and true. I love that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, did I know you were a youth pastor's wife? Because I could swear I did not know that. Hmph.
Oh how I utterly identify with your June. As ours is so similiar. It's nice to hear how much joy you find in all of this exhaustion, cuz I'm already plum tuckered out that I cannot find the strength to blog while I'm here at camp (ahem...with you). I do have an idea however of turning this smelly, mosquito-y, gross lake water and questionable camp food week into a fun blog post however... (to be continued).
ReplyDeleteoh luci...that was so sweet. those pics look great. (tell me your aperture setting...was it 2.8?) :)
ReplyDeleteamazing! I love love love her little rolls in her legs, they are just so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteI love that no matter how many children are in a family, that each new step is something to be celebrated. Way to go little Luci!
ReplyDeleteso many things to love here...i can't even speak intelligently about her outfit, just saddened they don't make them in my size and even if they did, well that's just sorta sad and creepy. LOVE the little dance there in the middle, a really important life lesson to just 'dance it out,' solves 99.9% of life's problems. but most of all she's so freakin cool about the whole thing! totally focused but in the most laid back, 'hmm, i think today i'll start walking' sorta way..ahh, too good! seriously, missing these babies...:) xoxo
ReplyDeletedo you live in a cave? how can you not know about the movie bridesmaids?! ok well you just explained it actually since june is a blur.
ReplyDeletei love that you caught your sissy's first steps!! she is a sweet little chubbers.
