macbloggersons--- where art thou?

so... the computer shopping ended in a heart pounding ebay duel to the death over one loaded 2009 macbook pro.
she has everything.
photoshop.aperture.illustrator.microsoft office.video stuff.something called garage band.and about 37 other things that i have never heard of.
650 holla dollas.

i am a deal magnet.
at times i am not sure how i manage such things but i find deals like it's my job.
like i should probably make it my job.

my old computer celebrated my ebay prowess by barely summoning the will to turn on. he's bitter.
so i am now a mac person.
if by typing on a mac and sitting in close proximity to a mac means you are a mac person.
for you see--- i have no idea what i'm doing.

i mean obviously upon the arrival of this gleaming white promise of humanity's future wrapped in understated but confident packaging--- i became 67% cooler.
i headed to starbucks, smug and sure of myself. my head held high lamenting the plight of all these little people forced to trudge through life with their inferior technology. you know what they say-- macs are just so intuitive. you practically  learn them through osmosis.
i mean --- obviously.

no.
i spent at least 5 minutes trying to figure out the trackpad before finally breaking down and watching the video tutorial. i also spent an embarrassing amount of time just scrolling over all my little app icons on the bottom of my screen. i like the way they roll up and bounce when i click on them. they are eager. i like that.
i felt like a chimpanzee in a laboratory experiment...shadowy figures clad in white coats behind one way glass furiously scribbling notes on my every ill fated effort to do amazing things like... figure out how the plug comes out of the little adapter thing. i kid you not. it's like a giant brain puzzle.

the scene in my living room the last few nights:

go ahead and pretend that isn't on your secret list of worst favorite movies. ;)

the irony being it took me a solid 5 minutes to figure out how to copy and paste that little clip in there.
so now my big secret is out.
i am technologically challenged.
although it's really not a secret.
it's possible when i pull out my sweet flip phone and attempt to hen peck a text people may start just assuming.

so here is where i need you my lovely macbloggersons.
that would be all y'alls using blogger on a mac.
i have read some beastly things about blogger and macs not getting along. can you ease my fears? will my world as i know it end?
this is the only picture i have on my computer right now..

my happy face on the night of macs arrival. you will ignore the chaos happening with crazy bookshelves in the background. there are major projects afoot. projects i want to tell you about... and take pictures of. so how do i do this?
i was using picasa before.. i have aperture and iphoto and photoshop for pictures. where do you store, organize and edit? this is the part where you tell me what to do and i defer to your wise and learned ways. i am mac putty in your hands.

in return i will give you my secret veggie muffin recipe. it's crazy healthy and equally delish. it has zuccini and yellow squash and flax and coconut oil... and all sorts of other dr. oz/mercola approved foods. it even freezes well.
you need muffins and i need to know how to not attack my computer with chimpanzee like strength.
let's deal. :)

p.s... i am cracking myself up with this song choice. macs are heart breakers that's for sure. who needs more 1997 in your life raise your hand? that's right we all do. :)

  3. I am a MAC user... My entire family only uses Macs. I sing it's praises from the rooftops. The only problem I have ever had is with my wireless router. If you start dropping internet service... check to see if you are using a WEP password. Macs work better using a WPA password. An easy fix once you call your internet provider. In comparison.... MACs verses P.C.s. NO COMPARISON... Sounds snobby, but it's true! You will fall in love!

  6. Hey Lauren, we are mac people and with Matt being a designer he's the photoshop expert but I used Photoshop Elements for digiscrapping. I store all my photos in Iphoto and do a little editing there but photoshop should be your editing software primarily. I'm not sure what aperture is, but Matt might know. Maybe we can have a crash course sometime. Let me know!

  7. hahaha - jess's bff kim here - totally saw your post and HAD to comment...

I am not as much of a mac genius as jess says (i'm still learning...and she technically had one before i did)

BUT my HUGEST words of advice is DO NOT IMPORT YOUR PICTURES TO IPHOTO.

    download picasa.
keep using that to organize and do stuff with your photos.

    don't even touch iphoto.
(another friend with a macbook taught me this, i am learning from her experience - and i have heard a few others say this too) - i haven't even OPENED the program (it scares me)

i have no problem with the mac/blogger combo.

in fact, with picasa it is SUPER easy to upload your pictures and go straight to blogger. i can teach you at the macbook training camp in october ;)

(and i can tell you how sooner too if you want!)

so i use picasa, upload to picasa web albums (which is then linked with picnik - which i use to edit - and also with your blogger account - it is all seamless - the best).

i also use photoshop elements to do some other fun stuff - but usually i am too lazy.

okay, that is basically an entire essay i just left you.

but welcome to the mac party.

and LOVING the jam...reminds me of high school. dance class. we warmed up to return of the mac every day. no one i know now remembers that song!

  11. Phil is the photo dude at our house. He uploads them to iphoto for me, b/cuz like you I am techie challenged and hate to learn anything new. Iphoto has the very basic photo editing, which suits my style just fine. Phil uploads his pics to aperture and loves them, and if he were here I'd have him write you a rant on why it is so much better than iphoto, but he's not :)
Uploading iphoto pics is super easy, just click on the insert photo button on the top of the toolbar, click on the choose photos at the top of the dialog box that pops up, another box will pop up, on the clear left scroll down to the 'media' section and click on photos. In the middle of this same box after you click photos you will have the choices of aperture, iphoto, or photobooth. Click on where you've stored your photos and then you should be able to see which ones are there. Click on the photo you want then hit the choose button. If you want to select multiple photos to upload you need to hold the 'apple' button (right next to the space bar) while clicking on all of the pics that you want, then click on the choose button again. Hope this helps some!
