yo snow

i like seasons to overwhelm me.. at least once. and for short amounts of time.

like i would prefer it to get ridiculously sticky shower twice a day hot so that i can be excited about winter. or in this case i need to be snowed in and have valid frostbite concerns at least once in order to drink my fill of frigid... so when spring sends it's green shoots up and heralds it's presence in my yard i don't mourn for the season that is passing but anticipate what lies ahead. nate thinks i'm whacked.

on friday night when the north wind was a blowin' and i shared the news we were in for snow and reeeeally cold temps ahead. i said it with a yay and a let's get frozen up in here... up in here.. semi rap. which i often break into when excited... and he once again explained to me that i am not normal.

which-- yawn-- i've heard before. :)

so the night before the big snow it was warm enough arianna finally got to make her snowman. he was a small dirty man. not exactly midwest winter postcard material... but they were proud none the less... :)

that evening the sun danced across the treetops in a fiery farewell...

and the next day it got cold. and white. and winter said good morning like only winter can. and that afternoon people who had been salivating all winter to crank those snowblowers on practically ran to their garages....

and i ran here...

while the snow drifted around us... our fire crackled, we watched 'the chronicles of narnia', and i wanted for nothing. i love that feeling that getting snowed in brings...
all that work you pour into building a happy home... one where love rules.. all those tears comforted, fights worked out, bridges mended, kisses given...comes home to roost. no one can get in or out and you realize you wouldn't want it any other way.

grayson made us hot chocolate... with maybe a little help. :)
the next day the snow called and called and called and called....
until finally i had to say yes.
i love seeing the kids loving the snow... it's just the 20 minutes it takes to get them ready... followed by the 10 minutes of fun before someone gets a snowball to the face, realizes it's cold and wants to come in... and then the 20 minutes it takes to get them back out of all their now wet and cold snow suits.... but what else is there to do?
you can't say no to snow. :)

we made snow ice cream  and now i have an entire backyard of free dessert mocking me. not cool.

it gets cold out there. but good things come to those who .. brave frostbite. and don't try to hit their sister with the digging spoon. or use their hands after mommy said don't use your hands...

super easy... pour it in.. mix it up.. and yum. tooooo easy if you ask me.
dangerously easy.

snow is fleeting. i love that.
snow days stop the world like nothing else really can. it seems the whole town comes to a screeching halt and people suddenly realize today is staring us in the face and we aren't promised tomorrow...
friends telling the tales of midnight sledding, snow angels, soup, cookie baking and simply playing. but there are also sad stories of parents tiring of their children after just one day home with them...annoyed that their schedules are thrown out of whack, plans ambushed.
it can be hard to let go..to receive a hijacked day as a gift...
but snow days are  time given back to us... if even just for the moment at hand..

it's just monday. but when it's a snow day monday... it can seem just a little sweeter. snow days are cold on the outside but can melt my heart on the inside if i let it. if i choose to just be here... spring will come soon enough, these babies will be up and grown soon enough..
but right now let's get frozen up in here.. up in here.. :)
