5onFri- books are good.

i am a reader.
i get lost in a book. all swallowed up in the colors and the country and emerge something different than before. that is the gift a good book brings. it wiggles down deep and leaves you changed.
i love the smell of a new book.. crisp pages. the sound of creaking the binding open to reveal the promise of somewhere you have not been.
i love the feel of an old book. hands heavy with the weight of all the hearts that had pulsed and danced with the words your eyes drink in now... the pages creased and threadbare, smudged and musty. books are good.

ps. this list changes all the time.. i would say i have a rotation of about 10 that are my favorites.. but these felt right tonight. :)

top 5 favorite books ...

1. the living reed by pearl s. buck

2. jane eyre by charlotte bronte

3. east of eden by john steinbeck

4. to kill a mockingbird by harper lee

5. the poisonwood bible by barbara kingsolver

i don't want to ruin it by commenting on these and saying why i like these best...
no that's a lie. actually it's just really late and i spent all my time for this post on that alternative treatments to keep you healthy all winter post i mentioned last week.. but then i think i started sounding like the pushy girl with raw cashews and spinach chips... and maybe holding a 'just say no to GMO!' sign stomping around outside monsanto.. so i thought it best to read it by the morning light for true perspective ;)..

so i went with books. books are safe. and wonderful. :)
what is a favorite book of yours?? i love hearing what i should read next....

  1. i will always love to kill a mockingbird. i wanted to name a kid scout, even.

i loved reading, in cold blood. riveting story and great writing. somewhat morbid though.

but my favorite book is and probably will always be ON THE ROAD by jack kerouac. love everything about that crazy book.

  4. mmy, favorite books lists scare me..much like favorite movie and music lists..too confining! but to toss out some old/and new goodies/treasures i'd have to say siddhartha by hermann hesse, franny and zooey by jd salinger, islands in the stream by hemingway, and a newer/good one that i think turned me into a vegetarian, the life of pi by yann martel. i completely hear you on east of eden though..yes please, aahh, too good. gotta say i enjoyed 'the help' that you lent me as well-it will now make it's way around gulu, uganda-a collective thanks:) xoxo
