what do you want for mother's day?

this beach house life is putting the hurt on my blogging time----
but i have a sneaking suspicion that maybe that's the point.
i am all wrapped up in watching wonder explode in childhood eyes at the sight of the ocean....
and i don't want to miss that.

i am working on getting some pictures up---
but for this day i thought i would re-post last years mothers day..
i'm all swelled up full of luci... grayson's chubby legs and diaper peeking out..
could that really be just one year ago? it feels like a lifetime and a moment all at once.
mothers day happens fast.

i am still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that motherhood is happening.... right now.
that these are the days of the little people. these are the days of smooshy kisses and homemade cards.
the moments of literally and figuratively being tackled by love.
the nights of i need you, the days of i want you,
the years of you are my bestest friend.

that song by james taylor has been playing through my mind...
'the secret to life is enjoying the passage of time'...
how i want to do that. it seems so often i find myself trying to get through the hard or trying to freeze the perfect. i am still learning how to savor the feeling of all those moments slipping through my fingers.
i am in the thick of it.

mothers day is every day.
i have little people giving me pictures and cards,
telling me they love me more than 100 times around the sun,
jumping and running to greet me when i walk in the door, crying to be near me,
laughing at my jokes when they are not funny, telling me i look beautiful when i don't,
loving me with completeness and innocence.

i am smothered in mothers day.
and when i think about that what i would really like is a bottle that can be filled with those
kisses and bearhugs, stories and questions, whispers and tears,
then poured out like perfume, some mothers day long from now, on my old woman heart ..
the sacred gift of a child's love.. that is all i need.
